Behavior Problems:
Question:
My 19-month-old has started biting other kids at
daycare. How can I stop this?
Answer: Biting is a very common behavior at
this age. The best way to stop this is by providing
loving, consistent, and firm care giving. Your
toddler must know that there are rules for all
children and not biting is one of them. All
activities with other children should be closely
monitored for aggressive behavior and should be
interrupted if the behaviors seem to be getting out
of hand. If the toddler bites despite close
monitoring, he/she should be removed from the
situation immediately and reminded of the rules. You
should never, under any circumstances, hit or bite
your child to teach him a lesson. Some parents do
this to show the child "how it feels," but it only
makes the child think biting and hitting are okay
